Talented Twelve is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to bridging critical financial gaps for African American students pursuing higher education. Our restricted emergency fund provides up to $5,000 annually per student, covering essential expenses such as tuition, books, housing, and student fees. The fund is designed to supplement existing scholarships or financial aid, offering timely relief during moments when unforeseen expenses threaten to jeopardize a student’s academic progress. Students may access funds no more than twice in a calendar school year. To ensure accountability and impact, Talented Twelve partners directly with charter schools in various cities. Students submit their funding requests, documentation of need, and verification to their school guidance counselor. Once verified, Talented Twelve pays the bill directly to the institution or vendor within 5–7 business days—never directly to students. Beyond financial assistance, Talented Twelve integrates a developmental component:

• Students must read

• They must write a two-page essay envisioning their dream life, reassessed each time they apply, which allows us to monitor their mental and emotional state.
• Students pledge to one day pay forward this support to another young African American once they are secure in their own lives.
